Positioned at the top of the Spencer Gulf and the foot of the iconic Flinders Ranges, Port Augusta is a place of rich Aboriginal heritage. It played a pivotal role as a maritime town at the frontier of South Australia's early development and later connected the nation by rail; north, south, east and west. Port Augusta powered the state for over 60 years with its recently demolished coal fired power stations, but thanks in part to the community led 'Repower Port Augusta' campaign an economic transtion is underway involving a massive growth in large scale renewable energy projects that has the town tipped to become the renewable energy capital of the world.
